They're often offered for science courses so that students can actually engage with the material they're learning (such as mixing chemicals in chemistry, dissections in biology). The power to make decisions about how something is managed or done. The ability to direct the actions of someone or something. : an action, method, or law that limits the amount or growth of something   There are three main variables: independent variable, dependent variable and controlled variables. Example: a car going down different surfaces. Independent variable: the surface of the slope rug, bubble wrap and wood. Dependent variable: the time it takes for the car to go down the slope.
