Phase
Phase
is a distinct and homogeneous state of a system with no visible boundary separating it into parts. Water, H2O, is such a common substance that its gas (steam), liquid (water), and solid (ice) phases are widely known.
in thermodynamics, chemically and physically uniform or homogeneous quantity of matter that can be separated mechanically from a nonhomogeneous mixture and that may consist of a single substance or a mixture of substances.
Distinct phases may be described as different states of matter such as gas, liquid, solid, plasma or Bose–Einstein condensate. Useful mesophases between solid and liquid form other states of matter.
