Organism
Organism
is any individual entity that embodies the properties of life. It is a synonym for "life form". Organisms are classified by taxonomy into groups such as multicellular animals, plants, and fungi; or unicellular microorganisms such as protists, bacteria, and archaea.
Microorganisms are divided into seven types. Bacteria, archaea, protozoa, algae, fungi, viruses, and multicellular animal parasites ( helminths ).
Each type has a characteristic cellular composition, morphology, mean of locomotion, and reproduction.
Viruses are microscopic parasites responsible for a host of familiar – and often fatal – diseases, including the flu, Ebola, measles and HIV. They are made up of DNA or RNA encapsulated in a protein shell and can only survive and replicate inside a living host, which could be any organism on earth.
