Seismology
Seismology
is the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies.
Seismologists also apply what they learn from studying the Earth's structure and other geological events, such as tsunamis, for commercial and other purposes, such as detecting nuclear explosions.
There are three basic types of seismic waves – P-waves, S-waves and surface waves. P-waves and S-waves are sometimes collectively called body waves.
John Milne father of Modern Seismology.
Charles F. Richter, American physicist and seismologist who developed the Richter scale for measuring earthquake magnitude. Born on an Ohio farm, Richter moved with his mother to Los Angeles in 1916.
