is a facility that provides controlled conditions in which scientific or technological research, experiments, and measurement may be performed.

 

Lab is also used for Laboratory.

 

A lab is typically a class where you do the "hands on" work of that course. They're often offered for science courses so that students can actually engage with the material they're learning (such as mixing chemicals in chemistry, dissections in biology). They can include doing experiments, writing reports, tests, etc.

 

A sample of a material to be tested or analyzed that is prepared from a gross sample and retains the latter's composition.
