Taxonomy
is the scientific study of naming, defining and classifying groups of biological organisms based on shared characteristics.
There are seven main taxonomic ranks which are kingdom, phylum or division, class, order, family, genus, species.
the basis for biological classification is homologies and similarities. The advantages are that it gives you an idea about the common ancestry of different organisms.
Carolus Linnaeus, the Swedish botanical taxonomist who was the first person to formulate and adhere to a uniform system for defining and naming the world's plants and animals.
The term taxonomy was originally coined by Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in 1813 (Stuessy; 1990, 1994). B. Linnaeus - "founder of plant taxonomy." Credited with binomial system and classification hierarchy.
Botany, also called plant science(s), plant biology or phytology, is the science of plant life and a branch of biology. A botanist, plant scientist or phytologist is a scientist who specialises in this field.
